If you can’t wait to see your players direct on the TV screen during playoff season you’ve got to teach them a thing or two about how to handle themselves off the court. Here are a few of the best things to work on with your team as individuals:
Meet One on One – Make sure to take some time to speak to each of your players individually every month or so and find out what their hopes and fears are. If you can learn more about the team dynamics you’ll be more aware of how to position everyone.
Speak With the Parents – A kid’s parents are one of the best ways to get to know them better and meeting with them one on one will allow you to share your goals as well as find out more about their child without having to observe.
Teach Sportsmanship – One of the tenants of youth basketball is learning how to handle a loss with grace so nurture good sportsmanship in your team. Refrain from yelling or admonishment and inspire your team quietly to do better.
